Growing up on Staten Island, filmmakers Joshua Zeman and Barbara Brancaccio had often heard the legend of “Cropsey” – a boogeyman-like figure who supposedly stalked children from the abandoned ruins of Willowbrook State School. What begins as an investigation into this urban legend takes a disturbing turn when they connect the folklore to the real-life disappearances of five local children in the 1970s and 80s, with convicted kidnapper and former Willowbrook employee Andre Rand at the center of the cases.
